Mane, Coat and Tail Grooming

Grooming is an essential part of taking care for our horses.  These activities that we do for them are our ways of showing them our love and passion for their presence in our lives.  Moreover, grooming will ensure their complete health and complete hygiene, hence prevention of a more expensive medication or any serious problems that might occur. 

If we lack the grooming practices we do for our pets there is certainty to skin problems that might occur that will potentially result to hair loss and skin damage.  Commonly, mange and fleas attack our pets which lack grooming.  We do not want that to happen so make it a habit to keep them clean and free from any infestation, if possible doing it daily.

Aside from the bone and body structure, head and hinds what makes a horse beautiful literally is also because of its mane, coat and tail.  To humans, our hair is our crowning glory because this is what makes us look better than our usual looks.  We can look elegant and sophisticated just with the alteration on the hairstyle much like with our horses.  Grooming the hair of our horses by grooming specialists might be a lot costly but there are people who make it as an investment.  Although to some, what is more important is that we meet the needs of the beautification of our horse even though we do it in a much cheaper but sure way. 

The coat of our horses shows how much care we give to it.  Its smoothness and thickness indicates that fleas and any other diseases can’t be present with those beautiful strands.  What you do to achieve the smoothness and thickness of the coat of your horse it to brush him daily.  What you use for a coat is the one we call as the curry comb or the grooming mitt.  Using these equipment you brush off dirt and any other particles from your horse and by doing it in a light, circular motion.  Do not apply too much force during grooming to keep away from sensitive bony parts of your horse and touching it hard might hurt them.  Also, do not just keep on brushing without looking.  Sometimes, what we do beforehand is to caress our horse’s body to check any skin lesions, bumps or swelling that might be a sign of an internal or external wound.  Avoid touching it with the comb for it will be painful, else have it treated by your vet immediately.

When you are about to do the mane and tail, do it with an advisable mane comb.  Comb its hair carefully, like how you comb yours.  Be careful not to pull tangles too hard because this for sure will hurt your horse.  What is worse is when you forget to position yourself away from the behind when you do the tail.  Keep yourself distanced if you do the tail and not stand behind as at any moment he might kick you and hurt you.
