The Black Forest Horse

The Black Forest Horse got its name from where it is exclusively bred.  The Black Forest in Germany serves as the breeding grounds and habitat for this breed where they are mostly known as the Draft horses because of the remarkable similarity with the breed.  Way back more than 600 years, this breed has been roaming evidently along the wilds of the country.  Usually, they are bred for aiding in the chores done in the forests as carriers and as rides.

The breed is famous for having a sound temperament, durable and strength in its physical features although despite the strong bodily form they are really gentle in nature and can easily adapt to any environment and people they encounter with.  The chores in the forest including the pulling of logs are easily carried out by the breed because of their strong and durable legs and feet.  Aside from that the rough and uneven terrain will be no problem for the breed compared to the other horses.

This breed is said to be rare that is why they are almost exclusive to be found to only one country.  Although the standards of the breed according to sources say that they are as tall as 14 to 16 hands and are as heavy as 1250-1400 lbs.  The Black Forest horses vary in their colors and markings but the colors from sorrel to dark chestnut are acceptable and as well as the blonde or the flaxen color in their mane and tail.

Today, the breed is not only famous to be used as forestry aides and field workers and eventually used their elegance and beauty as carriage carriers mostly during weddings.  They are also being loved by riders to be used during rides along the rough and uneven terrains as they stroll along it effortlessly.  And because they are naturally gentle they had gained the likes and trust of the children and are actually being used as aide during therapeutic riding facilities.  Because of this the breed has one again being placed at the limelight and eventually being in demand to people.  The number of the breed has slowly grown and survived and avoided the extinction.
